New Rochelle Teacher Picked For Marine Ecology Fellowship

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- A science teacher from Ursuline School in New Rochelle has been selected for an educational fellowship focused on sea turtles and marine ecology in Baja Mexico.

Robyn Summa been selected by the non-profit organization Ecology Project International (EPI) to participate in an eight-day research and education fellowship.

Summa will be immersed in the diverse ecology of the area, home to migrating grey whales and a thriving fishery. Her days will include sea turtle catch-and-release for scientific study, as well as lessons in how to incorporate field studies into the classroom. The group will also meet with Mexican teachers and students and explore the cultural heritage of the city of La Paz.

EPI is a field science and conservation organization that partners scientists with local and international students and educators in ecologically critical environments in Costa Rica, the Galapagos, Belize, Baja Mexico, and Yellowstone.

The EPI Research & Education Fellowship will take place March 5-12.
